Ninety Nine

It only seems like five minutes ago that we were celebrating Kathy reaching her 70th race on completion of that milestone and her original target she announced that she would go on to run another 30 events to reach 100. She is now on the threshold of the 100 events milestone too, with the best part of two and a half months before her 71st birthday there is no telling how many races she will end up running. Vic Musgrove 5k - 16th July

There was a good turn out by Wrekin Road Runners and it was a pleasant evening.
Again I ran with Michelle to encourage her to finish the 5k. My time was 42 minutes.

The Kara Kinder 10k - 18th July

This race was held in the Elvaston castle country park, with 415 entries it was a very humid night. The race consisted of three laps and although quite flat I would have preferred a few hills but at least you get to see the winners as you ran through the park. It was like running through Disney land with a lovely castle and its own tiny chapel, normally I don't  have problems with runners in front of me but this race I did. In the end after many requests I had to run right round them going  through some nettles to pass but the sting was quite strong. The marshals were brilliant and many spectators waited and cheered us on although I was not last this time, a few more came in after me. By this time we were soaking wet with sweat.  We had a very bright yellow T S which is just the thing for attracting flies. I was given a bottle of Bank's Ale just for John.  I enjoyed it very much except the humid heat but would do it again. My time was time 1h 25m
Telford town park - 19th July

In spite of the wet weather there was still a good turn out and when the actual run started it had stopped raining but  it was very humid. I ran with Michelle trying to persuade her to finish a 5k, well at last we managed. My time was 42.12s

The Trentham 10k - 20th July

This used to be a two lap 10 miler with big hills, however it's now a 10k with just one everlasting hill. The weather was good with 280 entries, the start and course was different. The reason why I was doing this race was to lay my demons to bed because last time I was running along this main road when a very large double lorry passed me and the draught from it forced me over the hedge.  The marshal saw it happen and came looking for me and he did find me over the other side of the hedge right in the middle of a load of brambles.  After the first aiders sorted me out I decided to call it a day. It was nice to see Nicola and Matthew Wright  from Lawley.
The start was up a hill and I did not hear what the marshal said and next thing we were off down a steep hill. When I approached the 1st kilometre sirens were going full blast and I approached a runner who was lying on the floor and he had stopped breathing but thanks to a young lady Nicola Wright from Lawley who saved the day by happening to have her mobile with her and was able to call for help. Everyone got into action straight away and were so well organized - the man was rushed to hospital. At the latest he is holding his own.
So then I settled down to my usual rhythm and began to climb this everlasting hill, I was determined not to stop and got to the top and then started to descend. Then we were sent through a nice little wood, back on the main road where Nicola joined me and explained what had happened. She very kindly offered to run with me but I persuaded her to carry on at her speed. I managed to pass my favourite place and keep going in my rhythm, we passed over a motorway and standing there was a nasty speedman van, I waved to him and thought you have a job catching me at my speed. While thinking how much I was enjoying the race a man on a bike came up to me and offered a lift but looking at the size of the narrow saddle I declined the offer. The last half mile is all uphill but I didn't mind. I loved every bit of it and would do it again. I was given a nice T shirt.  My time was 1h.30
