Telford parkrun - 22nd February

Kathy took part in her 48th event at Telford parkrun. She finished in a time of 36:05, I filmed some video footage of Kathy for a feature that we hope BBC Midlands Today will run on her, but I had a little fun with the film which you can view by following the link below.

Knype pool 5m Multi-terrain - 23rd February

This is a great run - it has everything with hills, streams, narrow bridges and lots of mud but it was a lovely park to run in.  178 took part with it being an out and back course. I had just done about one and a half miles when I met the winner Julian Goodwin finishing in a time of 28.44, he is also a top fell runner. Working my way up the hills and through the muddy patches I came to a very narrow bridge with four marshalls on guard. Once we reached the very top the view  was good considering the cloudy sky. Crossing a very muddy fields I came to a stile where I got tangled up but managed to get over then landed in some brambles so then the marshals came and untangled me.  After I was set free we were all having a good laugh. carrying on through the very muddy field, thank goodness I had taped my lovely new trainers on.  The marshals were brilliant and cheered me on , when I came in at the finish the mayor and town crier and a lot of runners cheered me in.  We had a nice mug, I loved it and would do it again.
My time was 1:21:44 the same as last year  (too much time in the brambles)

Telford Town parkrun - 15th February

Another Saturday and where else would Kathy be but at the 1st anniversary Telford parkrun. Kathy finished event 46 and her 36th parkrun in 39 minutes and 51 seconds.

Tempo Winter 10k at Shipton-on Stour, Stratford - 16th February

As soon as I knew Apley park was cancelled I was on the net and found this race which is just past Stratford, so this meant starting off very early on a lovely Sunday morning. Once again I was fighting the sun in my eyes and the nasty little men in their speed vans seemed to be everywhere but we arrived in good time to collect my chip and number.

179 entrants were ready for the start and off we went, after three quarters of a mile we came face to face with this very bleep steep hill which went on for about two miles, but when at the top the view was awesome and it was quite warm then we ran down a very steep hill but I found this just as hard. I managed to see a lovely young fox, some lambs and plenty of snowdrops, perhaps spring is just round the corner. As there were very few marshals and nobody at the water station, I kept turning left at each junction hoping it would lead me back down to Shipton village. Running around the village once I reached 9k one of the marshals asked if he run with me [a bit late]. Once over the line we were all given a pack of sausages.

I loved it and would do it again, my time was 1:31:00

Telford parkrun - 8th February

Kathy made another appearance at the Telford Town parkrun on Saturday where she recorded a finishing time of 38 minutes and fifteen seconds. The days of seeing Kathy cross the line last seem to have long gone this week she finished ahead of 18 runners. She is the current record holder for Telford parkrun in the female 70-75 age category, and is an inspiration for many.

Nick Beer 10k - 9th February

Although I had checked the weather, I was still keen to go to Llandudno, so I packed the sou'wester etc and we arrived to very windy weather but the sun was trying to come out.

The race started on time with 596 entries, as we set off making our way up the Great Orme the wind was against us. I managed to pass one or two runner who after 1/2m gave up so I settled down in my rhythm when I was grabbed by one of the marshals who informed me that he had  been looking for me since last year causing me to stop.  After a quick chat I had a job getting going again then there were 2 miles upwards where  I faced a load of empty water cups which are quite sharp. It was quite a fight against the strong wind but once I reach the top I thought I'd be ok running down but the wind  was still against me and then I came face to face with some lovely white fluffy goats who took one look at me and took off..

At about 5k you are chip timed, the marshals were brilliant and there were plenty of them all doing a great job. When I ran down the West side it was another world with the sunshine out making it a fantastic view then back along the front which always seems a long way and again the wind was against me. It was nice to see members from Lawley Running Club .I had a nice china mug at the end and  my time was 1:28 which I was very pleased with considering the weather. I still loved it and would do it again.

A nipppy time at Alsager

Kathy is making fast progress towards her goal of completing 70 running events in her 70th year with event number 43 finished at Alsager last weekend. Alsager 5 miles - 2nd February

After not being able to show my new trainers off on Saturday with the cancellation f the parkkrun I was pleased to go to Alsager for the five mile race to really try them out, but I was bitten right through my big toe by a Jack Russell with very sharp teeth -yes- my new trainers. Although a lot of blood came out my toe seemed ok . There were 1000 entries in the race which was chip timed, while we were chatting at the start, Janet said I think we had get a move on owing to the fact we did not hear the starter go off. It was a great run and we are very pleased with our time which was better than last years. I always enjoyed this race.
