Two Fat Ladies and Two Fat Dogs

Telford parkrun - 22nd March

Wow at the age of 70 years and and six months into her challenge to run at least 70 events in her 70th year not only did Kathy complete event 56 at Telford parkrun she also recorded a parkrun personal best time in 35:49.

7 Pools 10k Multiterrain  - 23rd March

When we arrived at Sutton Park the weather was very cold, 477 took part and we started on time, off we went across a lovely field then on to the path then ascending up the hill. I was stranded behind two rather large ladies who were just out for a jog, I had already asked if I could pass but as there was no response I altered my tone of voice and I got a rather stern look from the lady runners. At last I manage to get going  up quite a steep hill including lots of mud. After about 3 miles we then went though some lovely woods it was here I really had to watch my footing. By now I had managed to collect two chubby dogs, one each side. I don't know if I was the pace maker or the dogs were my pacemaker. Running around the 5th pool there were plenty of narrow paths and then finally back to the finish which had a very steep hill at the end.

I really loved this race and would love to do it again, it had everything.  The two ladies came in at last. I had a nice T-shirt. The money raised was for disabled children in the Sutton Coldfield area. My time was 1:31

Ski Practice in the Wyre Forest

Telford parkrun - 15th March

The weather was really lovely and the new tarmac surface was good. For this one I was the tail runner. My time was 49.53

Heart Foundation 10k at Wyre Forest - 16th March

Once again the weather was lovely and warm as John and I arrived in good time. At 1050 we were all encouraged to join in the warm up which did nothing for me. 

At last we were asked to make our way to the start, now bearing in mind there was 10k and 5k runners and dog walkers all in together and we never heard the gun go off it was mayhem. It took a good 5 minutes  trying to get over the starting line and this went on for about 3k with unfortunately one or two casualties. Once we reached 3k the 5k people turned off and we 10k people carried straight on climbing up a hilly part though the woods with me remembering to watch my footing. I was now up to 4k when I  passed some young girls who were fed up and wanted to drop out. I explained that you need to inform the marshals but there were no marshals around as there were only four on the whole course. 

However I carried on, this was a new route to me with plenty of woody areas including very muddy narrow roads and a gully. At one stage it was so bad I grabbed two sticks from the hedge to help me with my balance and enable to keep me going, it was like uphill skiing.  I came out of the muddy hill back on to the path and a marshal came running towards me shouting "Are you the one injured."  I said I am ok and he asked  where the injured one was to which I replied I didn't know and carried on quickly before he  grabbed me. By now I had reached 9k and the last big hill  to overcome to the finish, it was nice to see friends from  Lawley Running Club. This was definitely not a boring race but there was a lack of marshals .
I was pleased with my time of 1:35 with my not too clean trainers! I loved it and would do it again.

Fighting Gnats

Telford Town parkrun - 8th March

Although it was  dull and drizzly weather the atmosphere was great with good attendance. My time was 39:25

 
Fradley 10k 9th March
 
The weather was totally different than Saturday it, was lovely and warm, not a cloud in the sky. 829 took part, it was a two lap race around the village with great support and atmosphere, the only problem was fighting the gnats. The winner passed me at 4k finishing in a time of 33.13. Well done to Donna Howells who was the first Wrekin road runner, I'm  sorry I missed her. Janet Pugh had a good run and I really enjoyed it even though it seemed a bit flat, we had a lovely green bag, great medal and many goodies. I was the first over 65 and would do it again.

Fifty Up

Telford parkrun - 1st March

On Saturday the Town park was blessed by sunshine and was very enjoyable
time 39.15

The March Hair Raiser 10k  - 2nd March

When we arrived at the race the wind was very cold and it’s no fun waiting around  but Janine was very kind and kept me company while we warmed up.  165 took part, I had made enquires about muddy conditions and I was informed there was no problem so off we went through the farm then starting across the fields. I was making good progress then after 3miles I heard this voice at the side of me but which side? The next thing I knew three horses came galloping past me which gave me quite a fright as I am not too keen being close to horses but by this time the back up came. By the time I reached a narrow path full of mud and then again the horses came past me churning up the mud causing me to get tangled up in the brambles and bushes.  I had to slow down and keep moving my feet which were feeling very heavy from the mud as we crossed more fields. Once back on the road it became a lot easer under foot.  By the time I got back to the school the prize giving was nearly over so I was enjoying my cup of tea when I was informed that I had won  a prize. I think it was for the over 65’s but not too sure because their prizes are different than ours -a nice bottle of red wine - very nice too. It was nice to see friends from Lawley running club, congratulations to Sarah Green who was first in for the Wrekin in 57 minutes not forgetting Kim Prichard 1.02 and Janine Felton 1.12 and my time 1h.32m  Except for the horses I loved it and would do it again.
