Bridge, Bar-B-Que and Bay

Ironbridge 4 miles (part of the Sexarathon Series) - 2nd July 2014

Wednesday 2nd July was a very warm night and I normally run down from my house in Broseley but because we have a great big hole in the road when I reached this hole there was no way I could get through so I had to run back up the hill and find another way to get to Ironbridge so before the race I had already done 3 miles.

There seemed to be a good turn out and then off we went. I met Paul Ward on his way to the finish while I was running with Michelle who still needs encouraging to finish a race. I enjoyed it very much. my time 1h.1m

Bar-B-Que 5K Newtown - 4th July
I always love going to these Mid Wales series races as everybody is so friendly. The weather was looking a bit dodgy and it was very humid, the race started on time and off we went through the park and along the river Severn, up an incline where I met the winner coming back.  Once we reached the 3k we then returned back to the football stadium, it was one of those very rare occasions that I was struggling with my breathing but once there was a slight breeze in the air it was a lot better.
I loved the race. My time 39m 30 sec

Cross Bay Challenge Half Marathon - 6th July

Well I don't know where to start as I am still on a high from Sunday. This race was recommended to me by Jon Aston as it is one of his favourites. When he suggested it I jumped at the challenge of getting from Morecambe bay to Flookburgh near Grange over Sands in Cumbria but when the day came I was a bit concerned about crossing the bay as with me been a slow runner I thought I might have to be rescued by quad bikes.
We arrived at Morecambe and the weather was just fantastic with blue skies all around. After having our photo taken with Eric Morecambe we made our way down the sea front and saw lots of coloured balloons but when Jon made enquiries the answer was a children's race which gave  us a good laugh. Finally we arrived at the start and picked up our number, chip, and wrist band.  After a pep talk about safety and not being a  PB course he emphasised the importance of safety and keeping to the route marked by cones  and flags.
Once we were off I thought this is itn now I have started I will finish and hoped I could beat the tide. Within the first mile we came across one of the rivers and I thought this is nice, but just over the mile and into the next river where all of sudden I was in it up to my hips. Jon was brilliant helping me  then another one, I was getting used to this and started to enjoy it. After about three miles we were crossing many more inlets, in fact we crossed these inlet rivers fourteen times, Jon then produced a snorkel and a pair of water wings which the marshal thought was hilarious. When we were halfway we looked across the sand and could not see any land which made my heart beat a bit faster but this was awesome  however I got my head down and kept running at my slow pace. The marshals were so friendly and said if I kept going at my pace I will be ok . Every time I looked across the bay it seemed never ending, water stations were on the backs of a tractors and runners in front of us were like little sticks but as the miles passed by I felt so lucky to be taking part in this unusual race and with my star hero- what more can one say. After 3h.40m I arrived at the finish and I was given a great reception from the marshals and helpers. It seemed to go quickly but I hoped it was not too long for Jon. Afterwards we just had to have fish and chips - yummy.
Not forgetting to thank the back up team of Sarah and my John welcoming us in.
This race was just fantastic and like a dream - I would love to do it again but I would put a bit more training in it. Now just got to look for another unusual race as I am suffering withdrawal symptoms  Just wow!
