Staffs Knot 5 Mile - 30th July
It was lovely evening for a five mile race, good entry of 372 and also meeting up with some old running friends. It started on time and off we went - this race has everything in it with nasty hills and big potholes but plenty of marshalls to cheer us on. I really enjoyed the race and would do it again. Well done to Claire Martin winning 1st of the ladies 35 category in a time of 29:48. I was pleased with my time after what I had done at the weekend before and was given a nice mug. my time 1:07.
The North Wales Conwy 1/2 marathon 3rd August
Because my John was taking his Morris Traveller to a rally at Conwy Station but at a later time Sarah & Jon Aston very kindly took me up to the race. When we got there the weather was turning a bit windy and cold, we then when collected our numbers and made our way to the start on the beach next to the marina. When the starter went I had the shock of my life as I knew we were running on sand but this was hard going plus the wind was against us and was whipping up the sand - thank goodness I had my glasses on.
After about a mile we went up a sandy hill on to the main foot path and it was with great relief I was running on something solid and smooth. Sarah who very kindly ran with me all the way looking after me very well. I got myself in a steady rhythm and just kept going, although the weather was very wet and windy for the first four miles it improved with the sun coming out. I kept going up the first two hills, we ran through Penmaenmawr and through Dwygfychi then when I reach Sychnant pass now there was a challenge getting near the top I had to walk but I was not giving in. When I reached the top the view was awesome and well worth the effort, during this race Sarah spotted a ice cream van ,sounding disappointed as neither of us had any money. Although going down was a bit difficult once again Sarah kept me going, at last we were on the main road where we spotted another ice-cream van.
When we reached mile 12 we heard this man shouting at me "Oh I remember you from Llandudno - keep going" and at last we came back on to the beach and over the finishing line to quite a cheer. Although I felt tired I was on a high from managing to finish the challenge. After picking my lovely medal up I was given two T S. I was wondering why? found out later thanks to Kim it was for 1st 0/70. Well done to all the Wrekin runners and to Kim for winning her age group. I really enjoyed it and would loved to do it next year. A very big thank you to Sarah. My time was 3:33:00
Pie & Peas 5 miles - 6th August
This is a race I have been wanted to do for a long time because of the name of the race so I made sure I entered this year, so off to Northwich. It was a typical summers evening and the little town come village had a nice atmosphere to it. I picked my number up and was warming up ready for the race then I had a nice surprise as my very good friend Linda Edmondson turned up and said she would like to run with me. 261 had entered and it was traffic free for 80% of the course and lovely narrow lanes to run up with plenty of good Marshalls with good directions so no excuse for getting lost. Caroline the back marker looked after me well and I really enjoyed the run because I was not sure how my legs were going to be after Conwy 1/2. Although it was very humid and running round the field at the end seem to drag a little but I finished ok. Then it was back to the local hall for the pie & peas. The pie was made from short crust pastry and the steak was very tender and yummy. Then another surprise as I won the 0/70 cash plus gift voucher which was very nice. I really loved it and would do it again next year. My time was 1:07 and I was pleased with that.

Stourbridge Stumble 10k - 9th August
As we approached Stourbridge, the clouds were getting blacker and blacker however by the time the race started it was blue sky once again. This race starts off with a nasty hill so I am aware and mentally prepared for it. Once across the common we came to very narrow pathways. The condition of the pathways were different from last time with over grown nettles and brambles and because I am short I was having to fight my way through. The next wood we came to had a very narrow gully to run up - so narrow I thought I was plaiting my legs. Then there was the sand underfoot, back across the edge of the cricket field, when a big cheer went up. I thought it was for me but no, somebody got caught out and I was told it was my fault he was busy watching me shame## Then was soon back in the park, all the marshals were brilliant and I had a very nice welcome when I came in. T Shirts were handed out and I loved it and would do it again. My time was 1:33:00
